Why would the coma be any weirder than the dot? And actually it's not specific to currencies, we actually write any decimal numbers like that. In mathematics too by the way.However it's probably true that anyone will understand if you put a dot instead of a coma. And we can also find prices written with dots rather than comas (I guess it's called "label" globalization :D )
As a programmer I certainly feel MORE confortable with dots instead of comas (but who said programmers were representative of "normal" people :) ?)
