What I find so ridiculous about this argument you guys are trying to spin up, is that we're on a forum of programmers and content producers where the same argument should apply to the products we produce. You've failed to protect your program adequately, so I can just take it. I'm not stealing it really because it's not actually depriving you of it. How was I to know that downloading a game from Pirate Bay was illegal? I thought because it was on the internet and publically accessible it must be OK. It's really just being cheeky is all.
One of my neighbours has a really long range unsecured wireless access point, and she seems to run her entire business within unsecured Windows shared folders with public write permissions. Happens to include many credit card numbers, with names and expiry dates, that are unfortunately very hard to miss.
I have, on more than one occasion, accidentally snooped in that stuff. (Computer unexpectedly connected to her access point instead of mine, I went browsing in what I thought were my shared folders and found credit card numbers).
Nobody can gather the courage to let her know...
Educate her, im sure she will thank you for it. Oh, no wait... that would be admitting to breaking the law. What an ironic twist to a silly system :) I have, on more than one occasion, accidentally snooped in that stuff. Seriously though, she needs to be told because such neglegence coud leave her legal 'open season' in itself. Prehaps an anonymous letter through the door :/
