Who said I want people to work dirt cheap?

My first job as a C programmer paid me $7 an hour. I was bringing home about $1200 a month.
My first job as a level designer paid me $22K a year. That's about $10.50 an hour, or $1833 a month.
My second job as a level designer paid me $30K a year. That's $2500 a month.
I've also coded a few shareware games for around $5K each. That's about $2000-$2500 a month if you're doing it fulltime.

Those are about the rates which I'm willing to pay someone to code the game. Perfectly reasonable. I'd hardly call $2500 a month no reward. And I'd hardly say I'm taking no risk. When you consider how much I have to spend on the other aspects of the game, that comes to something like $10,000 I'm investing in code, art and music.

As for Flammeduck's rate, if you think that's on the low side, you're absolutely insane. It would take EVEN FLAMEDUCK, GOD CODER THAT HE IS, a month to write a shareware game. That $24,000 just for the code.

You do know you're lucky if you make $30K a year from a shareware game, don't you? Oh you might hit the lottery and get in the top 10 on RealArcade and hang around there for a month and make a total of $60K that first year, but let's be realistic shall we?
