Different people appear to be getting different results on things like that. For instance, I use Windows Mail and have never had a problem with passwords (whereas I did constantly using Outlook).
First time I've heard about what vinylpusher mentioned, but I do know there's a search/metadata databasing service that is supposed to run while Idle, though people have noticed large speed increases turning those sorts of services off. Again, I've never had a problem. Guess I've had a sort of good run with Vista (except for my gfx card cacking up).
