Yep. I agree it's absolutely ridiculous and it's a sign that something is obviously very wrong with your vista installation
Humor me. Take a huge zip file, and rather than extracting everything, try to copy/paste just a single large folder out of it into a normal explorer window.
(Note: Make sure you can spare some time first)
