Honestly, no one should be using Vista right now. It doesn't run anything.
You should be barking at the developers of software that doesn't run. Its not Microsoft's fault that years of sloppy coding have finally caught up with everyone. I don't remember this happening when XP or 98 was introduced.
Dunno about Win98, but XP has a Compatibility Mode to ensure old stuff works.
