You know that customs can sting you for duty on the way back, right? Wouldn't carry it in hand luggage if I were you. ;)
Also, keep in mind that import duties are typically the same as salestax (17.5% in the UK?) and IIRC they are levied over the going rate of the product in the country you are importing it to, regardless of what you actually paid for the thing abroad.
