>I don't deny that the worst thing to happen to the Amiga

As opposed to Atari buying it. Amiga ST with GEM, 128K RAM and a rubber keyboard. Be careful what you wish for!

>they sat on it for years
>doing nothing to upgrade the system until it was too late.

Commodore developed many upgrades, but people didn't buy. Many new AMIGA models were developed, but since the original was never designed to evolve, it was dificult to force it without breaking compatibility. When they did, nobody bought it. The AGA Amigas were a stopgap solution, but were designed to evolve.

The fact is that price was a major factor for Amiga buyers. An increase in the price to cover a better processor with MMU, FPU etc, and an OS rewrite to support it, just didn't make sense. Those who wanted an advanced Amiga would just purchase an A4000 and then upgrade as needed.
