I would like to see the next generation of home pcs have a 'hardware' OS, one that by default boots from say a 4-8GB solid state device with the harddisk(s) only for the user settings, user data and non-standard apps. Prehaps add an optional second SS device could work as cache or swap.
Imagine the boot speed then and unless you were upgrading / changing something to do with the kernel or hardware, you could lock it to become ROM (mabe even with a simple key on the front of the pc!). The os is then unbreakable by all nasties (including non admin users :)
I know this can be done in a way with linux and even XP with some hardcore configuring, but its not 'designed' by default to be used like that and isnt as efficient as it could be as a result.
If "amiga" or anyone else had something like this in mind (if the hardware and OS were up to scratch) no matter how unconventional the new system may be, regardless of wether they try and adhere to the amiga legacy or not (theres no point anyways as its easily emulated) then i would be very interested.
