I use XNA for 2D stuff, so I cannot really compare the 3D side of things, but here is a quick link for a 3D example:-

Also, C# is a pretty nifty language, well, IMO, and even though you dont get the fully-fledged Visual IDE in the express edition, its still an absolute joy to work in!
