They could surf on the hype created by the cell processor and make what Sony hasn't managed to do, running graphics on it, bundle it with a decent OS and dev tools. Or stack some Powerpc cpu together, parallel computing, in a time where SGI is almost stopping hardware it could work, especially if making it cheap and modular (if they want to survive the concurrency).
But I doubt they can pay the development of such platforms ...
I have the impression that (at leat for desktops) the killer Mac application is final cut, not itunes.
Since office application and Games and 3D is the domain of PC, creative video/image editing the one of Apple, what's left? The war on Media PC is raging, no hope on this one for a new comer, servers and embedded application is almost PC only as well. Advanced sound processing?
