I use my laptop as my main dev machine (sold the desktop years ago). Mind you I do wonder sometimes if I'd use less space with a desktop as I have an external hard drive, DVDRW, card reader and SB Audigy NX2 (usb cable madness).

Forgot to mention a mouse as well.
