I guess it depends what you're looking for in an adventure game. If you are attracted by puzzles and ambiance then stuff like Myst and Riven will appeal. On the other hand, if you like plot, story, characterisation and dialogue then stuff like Monkey Island II or Quest for Glory will seem more appealing. The latter qualities are most important to me.
