Anyway I only have the bin on the desktop. (Can that be hidden? If so tell me how XP).
There's a Microsoft "Powertoy" called TweakUI that will allow you to do this (amongst other things).I have 36 icons on my desktop and I'm proud to say not a single superfluous one.
