If only to inspire a turn towards gameplay over graphics in the future. Fun to play over fun to look at.

NOTHING is preventing that.
Except Nintendo themselves. They've historically been very stiff on what they say developers are allowed to do. And they've already NOT allowed 3rd party devlopers to make use of the Miis.
But its quite obvious, if the other 2 companies are doing online gaming, why in Gods name would the big N not do same. It would be ridiculous not to. But then again, why would we need that online stuff when we got stuff like Wii Sports and Wario Ware to entertain our mothers and girlfriends for hours..?
