Arrays vs Lists (speedtest)

So when are you going to take another look at Lisp? ;P
When I need to. Which is probably never.

AngelDaniel: Sure. A couple of years ago, I would have agreed with you, and I think it's the main position for someone who does not have to maintain their software for it's entire life cycle. If you do, it quickly becomes a priority to organize your code in such a way that it's easy to maintain, particularly since it'll still be used in three years when CPU speed will have doubled. Twice.

The only significant exception to this is operating systems. Any amount of CPU time spent on running the OS is effectively wasted, since "running an OS" is not why most people buy a computer. That's why everyone thinks XP is so great. Because they run it on computers several orders of magnitude more powerful, than the ones it was originally designed for.

The CPU speed is cancelled out by the bloated inefficiencies which is why today we have radically faster machines than 10 years ago which in some cases can barely provide the same functionality at the same speed due to such inefficiency and complexity.
Name one. Sure we still use computers to solve the same type of problems (polynomial time) but our processing capacity has increased by several orders of magnitude.
