In "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep", they are still not androids.
Although it does specificly refer to them as such.Androids are - by definition - robots which in turn are - again by definition - machines. Thus it would seem that by the traditional definition, "Andys" are not Androids in the traditional sense, regardless of how Philip Dick uses the term in his book.
Android, droid or whatever... we always have to make sure we can pull the plug somehow...
Haven't you seen the Terminator movies? The ability to pull the plug is why we're percieved as a threat! Besides if we can manage to peacefully co-exist with fish, we should be able to do the same with Andriods and/or Bioengineered humans.
