I can't talk about Solaris as I haven't that much experience with it (my Prof uses it for almost everything on the interna uni servers and won't stop telling me how great it is as a server OS, however I prefer BSD) but BSD is just more secure than Linux. There is a BSD distro named monowall which has not been hacked yet as far as I know. BSD is also much more consistent in terms of development. There are a few different distros but not nearly as much as Linux (and therefore not nearly as much rubbish as Linux). BSD is also free but imho has a better license.
