Well, I've discussed things further with him and think I will be purchasing a "non-commercial" use license for the time being, with the option of upgrading it later.
I redid my logo too - got rid of the color (I didn't realize how much I borked the image by adding color.) I made a few small changes to the original, and it now looks perfect.
Anyhow, thanks for all the advice everyone. And I apologize for getting defensive - I was just upset because I felt like I was being attacked despite my desire to "do the right thing" (hence the creation of this thread in the first place.)
All I've got to say is I'm glad that my MUD won't require all that much art - dealing with artists and art costs is more of a pain than I thought ;) (okay, it's not that bad but I was used to working with friends for free back when I was younger. Of course - we never really got much of anything accomplished, either, hehe.)
