Windows is for lots of software, lots of everyday people, and ease of use for the general public.
Mac is for the trendy that don't mind paying for style.
Linux is for people who want to play with the OS, not with the software on the OS. People who like the fun of messing with the system, but it is really only good for long running applications you just leave go, like servers.
The funny thing is, most users will only really install some games and maybe some other software that mgiht come with a linux. Had linspire a while ago and never even wanted to get more software, had everything from open office, gaim, firefox, and much other stuff.
I'd like to see a user-friendly linux. One that is designed to be installed, have everything the user needs at their fingertips, from music software to office things, a real chunk of everything people tend to get. And then no one will need anything else.
Something you can put on grandmas PC which would give her everything she needs and doesn't let her screw things up.
