The 19" widescreens have become *very* affordable now. I don't know about NZ but here they're practically the same price as 17". I don't own a widescreen so I can't say for sure, but I assumed they could setup to run standard resolutions and leave borders around the screen. That's worth checking on.
All the reviews I've read ( and I've read a few lately, as I'm also considering a 17" or 19" tft when I replace this 15" tft ) say you can't go wrong with Samsung. I've also heard good things about Asus' 19" widescreen, but haven't found as much reading material on that. A nice thing about Asus is that they have a zero tolerance policy on dead pixels. None of this "any five in a significant part of the screen BS".
