Oh darn, they just set their boots too heavily on my porch for their own good.

I'm just a pretty ordinary end user, and I've been wincing lately over just how much validation I am being asked to tolerate with XP. It is already excessive in my view as I paid a serious amount of cash for the copies I have installed on assorted machines as it is. I went without a lot of nice hardware to pay for that too.

To get the most out of Vista seems likely to require me to buy better hardware, however there's a snag, I am seriously not too interested in the most recent hardware in the main, as in my view it's pretty poor. So I am rather unlikely to go there, and as such I won't need vista as badly as I guess they think I will.

So, given all this new jackbootism, and the fact that I'm already reluctant to go where they think I might with hardware, I'm even more likely now to stay with XP, and, once they try to renege on the deal, or cease to support their own product as they like to put it, I may well be just about ready to turn in my keyboard for ever anyway.

How is that end result supposed to help further development of anything in the industry?

There does come a time when a paying end user will buck at the jackboot across the back of the neck, which was meant to combat the non paying end user. I'm already getting the feeling it's too much to be bothered with right now. I bet that over time, others will quite possibly feel it too. I mean who's damn computers are these? I know I paid for them, so it sure looks like they're mine, and I've absolutely no intention of changing that view.

I'm really not too interested in any of the other OSes around, but might (if forced like this) just dumb down to an apple laptop of some sort, for email and trivial stuff like that. When that happens, I got plenty of other things I can do to fill the gap that NOT "messing about with computers" would leave.

I've already thought recently of dumping the net and computers as it is, this can only help it happen. A rather dumb industry stance is all this. I've never known an industry make downtake more attractive than uptake before. Astonishing.
