I think if you give an Elite remake the same attention to detail that you do for your other projects then yeah - go for it, it would be cool. Definitely do your own take on it. Landing on planets would be extremely good. And don't do REAL space physics - do arcade game space flight 'cos it's a darn sight more fun!
Then I could enjoy playing your remake (of sorts) whilst waiting for the release of you know what. :)
