What I achieved in the last few minutes:

Finished a very small app which reads in uncompressed, 16bit per channel (single channel greyscale), tiff files and dumps the pixel values as a series of shorts to a file. Purpose - so that I can have pre rendered scenes in my isometric game and have a 16bit 'zbuffer' rather than a limited '8bit' 'zbuffer'. The sprites that are used are stored in system memory rather than video memory (using blitzplus and writing directly to the backbuffer) with my own image format that allows me to have many thousands of frames of animation and take up minimal memory (one sprite has 9000 pre rendered frames of animation at a frame size of 100x100 and it takes up 17MB of system memory as opposed to the 360 MB of video memory it would use if I were to use the standard 'loadanimimage' command...
