Turrican 2, the most perfectly balanced game ever conceived :)
Nice graphics, great music, and lots of cute ideas made it a winner. Get an amiga emulator and try it out, if you don't know it already.
Also it had a middle point sidescrolling shoot-em-up, which although not spectacular, made a nice variation. At the time it was quite uncommon for a game to have variation :)
