I code VB for a living and am a fan of .net. With the new release of 2005 and .net2, MS really has devoted a lot of time and effort to get it right. And giving away the express editions sure doesn't hurt at all. I love BASIC syntax and have been unable to really get into C#.

I have been using Blitz since B2D days and code for fun but have been considering writing shareware. I just took a hard look at whether I should use vb.net/managed dx9 or max(I have been using max since beta days.) Here is why I decided on max:

1. No 20MB .net distro
2. VB is not cross platform.
3. Grey Alien's framework saves me a ton of time and I can get right into game coding.

I played with vb/dx and did the stuff that I wanted about as easily in vb. The Sprite class is great for throwing stuff up easily. I don't really care about 3D at this point. I think it was smart to release max without 3D.

As a last point, the docs in max plain SUCK! There are so many examples of where I wasted an hour trying to figure out how to do something it is pathetic. BR REALLY needs to pay someone to come in and fix it. There are people on this very forum that are capable and I am sure would do it for a reasonable fee.
