You're wayyyy behind me, I said all this years ago :P ( And got severely flamed for it too, as memory serves, despite the good intentions, so get your asbestos underpants on.

Ultimately I'm very happy with the language, MaxGUI, Max2D and a few other issues aside, but then I was never really concerned that the product wouldn't appeal to me. I was concerned it wouldn't appeal to it's core audience, which - despite what this forum would have you believe - has always been beginners who want to make games as easily as possible.

But ultimately that's none of my/your/our business, and if BRL wanted to move away from the beginner audience towards a more advanced audience, that's entirely their choice. I totally see your reason for mentioning it, because - again despite what this forum will try to tell you - every user is directly affected by how popular and successful the product is, but it's out of our control, whether we like it or not.

In fact I've come to a point where I'm having to make a similar decision, whether to play it safe and keep appealing to the same people or take a huge gamble and try and carve out a new audience from scratch by doing what I really want to do. I'm not yet committed to that course of action, but it looks as though I'm probably going to take the huge gamble, kiss goodbye to the old audience and start all over again too, so it would be hypocritical of me in the extreme to criticize. Although ( obviously? ) my decision won't affect anyone but me.
