I had a tech support guy tell me that Microsoft's official stance is that new OSes will be released every 18 months, but old ones will only be supported for 4 years - This is to force an upgrade every 4 years.
If the professional application people can resist adding Vista-only features, and the gaming industry can resist DX10-required strategies, then we may have a chance to show MS that we don't like to be forced to do ANYTHING!
