I think all the Vista naysayers are probably the same people who said XP was gonna be rubbish and bomb and just love to bash MS. For some reason MS bashing is eternally popular, the penalty of success I suppose.

XP is IMHO unquestionably one of Microsoft's best achievements so far and works very well: its stable, is easy to use and has a good feature set. Most of the time people don't even think about their XP operating system because it's that good, you just know it will work.

I think Vista will be successful and will support the next line of Microsoft applications well. As for support I think they have supported XP well and why should they spend a lot of time adding support for Direct X 10 to their old OS? People are behaving as if they have a God-given rigt to indefinate updates from Microsoft which they don't, particularly for something as non-essential as a new gaming API.

Like a lot of products, if you want the functionality in the new product buy it, if you are so happy with the functionality in the existing product, don't. But don't expect the company to give you a free upgrade to your old product just because they release features in their new one.

If it was any other company than Microsoft I doubt there would even be a discussion about this!
