I agree that Blue-Ray for movies is not worth the increase in price hike. I don't think it doubled the price but it probably added 150 to it.
I mean, as consumers we have to decide what we want. I personally do not like too many 10-in-1 units. Only when it makes sense, but I never used my PS2 or XBox as a DVD player. I have a nice DVD player and I have upgraded it when new technology came out (DVI, progressive scan, 400 Disc Player, etc.). The only benefit that all in one unit has is for kids who have a tv in their room. Again, at 600 price point, not many kids have bday money to buy it.
You know what, I want the PS3 to have a blue-ray, TiVo, Web Browser, PodCast capture/edit/publisher, photo viewer AND editor, built in LCD for those of us on the go, and coffee heater. Com'on. That is where Nintendo is doing the right thing IMO, its a GAMING system.
I want a video game console, not these all-in-one media centers.
EDIT: Secretly, I hope Nintendo becomes #1 worldwide (US too) and put a stake into these huge prices. Then, on to cutting dev costs from 10 million to 1 million at most. We need more games, more inovation, and not have a company bancrupt itself because one failed game causes bancruptsy.
