don't ever compare trance to counterpunctal fugues :)
It is like comparing a flashing LED to the grid-panel of a railroad system.
I do get your point, but fail to see the actual talent in the description. That seems to be what I get all the time.
People tell me why they like it, but not what makes creating it hard.
Being difficult to make is what gives something worth. There are always happy accidents, but they can be quantified after the fact... 1 hit wonders and all that.
Trance seems to become popular by just being at the right place at the right time and with the right people looking at it....
I confounds me greatly.
The only other form of music that gives me this headache is rap... but only some rap... Like 50 cent's In Da Club... I can't for the life of me figger out what makes it any better than some of the other club-fluff that comes out...
There is rap I respect, either because the lyrics took talent, or the music is something different and talentful.
Someone with the knowhow to explain In Da Club to me can try to make me understand both these systems and I'll be very happy.
It is important for me to note. I actually like a lot of what trance does... I just don't tend to like it as a whole... or a composition as a whole..
My favorite band, Tiamat ( www.churchoftiamat.com ) has a ton of trance and techon influences in it. But it also has complex melody, great lyrics, musicianship, and explorations into some very un-treaded on music theory. All without straying too far from something fun and easy to listen to.
