I'm a bit fed up with SRX at the moment, so I know how you feel about being demoralised. I seem to have been stuck in a rut for ages with nothing really progressing.
However, I recently started building a new SRX main vehicle to replace the old buggy model, retextured the track to something a bit muckier, and swapped my aging 9800 for a 6600GT, all of which has started to spark my interest again. I also got the AI player working so well that I can't beat him very often.
I think everyone goes through these stages in a project - once you get that initial breakthrough done (in my case getting the car physics sorted and working with such daft track shapes) it can then feel like nothing else major happens for ages.
