The Next Generation of Consoles

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/The Next Generation of Consoles

Okay, this is the way I see it people. The X-box 360 is already dead, nobody cares about paying £300+ for the console and then £50 on largely the same games they already have except with slightly better graphics.

Playstation 3 will do better due to the existing fan base and the fact it will be backwards compatible. The fact that it will have the best graphics out of the next three will also entice a few 13 year olds obsessed with polygon count over gameplay.

The Revolution will be the winner this round, easily getting market share due to it’s expected low price tag (supposed to be sub £200) and many developers will want to develop for it as it is said to be close to programming for the GameCube and the dev kits are extremely cheap 2,000US Dollars compared to 20,000 for the PS2. With the success of the DS it has shown that a large portion of the mainstream DO want something new. Most developers even in the current generation are struggling to keep their head above water, next generation the only way they will be able to make money will be on Revolution games.

If the Revolution does fail I think the games market will probably crash. Nobody I’ve talked to including people who ACTUALLY liked the Xbox (due to Halo) seem to have any interest whatsoever in paying premium prices for the same old rubbish with slightly better graphics. In fact most of them including me are buying fewer and fewer games of the current generation as we don’t want to be spending current generation prices for the same old rubbish.

What do you think?
