Easy fix: use a non-optical mouse, and you'll be cursing at it for hours on end. ;-)
Personally, I am a keyboarder myself. I tend to overshoot things with the mouse, and am absolutely horrible with two-handed controls (mouse/joystick and keyboard simultaneously) Keyboard-only gets me by without too many problems, even in games like Descent 3.
