You can avoid the "o 0 , l I 1" confusion by using a font that is easy to distinguish. My current favourite is Bitstream Vera Sans Mono. I and 1 are slightly similar, but the 0 has a dot in the middle, which has always been a favourite feature of mine when it comes to computery fonts :)
