But valium is addiitve and damaging. Long term abuse results in amnesia, and an overdose could send you into comatose. Valium also has severe heroin-like withdrawl symptoms. Chroic use is definately more damaging and more addictive than cannabis. We aren't giving good facts to kids about the good and the bad.

Well given the choice, I'd rather pay voluntarily, as opposed to having some crackhead break into my house and taking what he feels he needs. I don't know what the best solution is, but just giving it to them (the abusers) isn't it.
Except it is, because not everyone who is an abuser made a concious decision to do so, and legalizing drugs will make being a substance abuser a matter of personal choice, rather than bad luck.Also addiction is not a genetic dependancy. I don't care what kind of genes you have, if you shoot heroin, you're going to be addicted. It's a drug, it's what it does, it's how the drug dealer makes his money, on the comeback.

So do adults. Everything you mentioned in that paragraph is something that effects everyone. What, you don't get affected by a moral dilemma? Or by watching the News from Iraq? Hell even watching commercials effect you (that'a why companies pay a fortune for them). It affects everybody, and kids can cope with more than you give them credit for, if they have loving parents who support them. Sure one day they'll see all this, but the more mature they are the better imho
But how do you measure maturity? You think it's a matter of age? It's not. It's a matter of stimulation and security, and the more stimulation and security they get, the better they will be at copeing with new things, and the more mature they will appear to the world around them.
