opps.. silly me, i didn't have 3d acceleration setup
anyway, decided to go back to ubuntu 5.10.. sudo nvidia-glx-config enable (did the trick for me)
still get the warnings about the libstdc++.so.6 conflict is because of diff versions of gcc on my system
