I use this method (WinXP):
1) In 'My Network Places' add a new network place
2) Enter your ftp desination,
ftp://user:pass@...
3) [Next] and give it a name (My webspace backup folder)
4) A new folder should now be present in 'My Network Places'
5) Right-Click and drag to desktop. Make a copy there.
Whenever you want to backup a file just drag onto the new folder on the desktop.
