We call it mapping, you can choose what each cell looks: like numvalues 0..64, 0..255, 0..1000 etc., but also 'curve' .. in this case this 'curve' is your envelope.
btw, tracks can be customised to your needs. Need 15 cells instead of 4? Do it!
