DirectX 10 NOT backwards compatible

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/DirectX 10 NOT backwards compatible

So, the facts so far (not gossip) are, Vista when it arrives will require a beafy CPU, a decent video card and oodles of RAM. Games not specifically written for DX10 will run slower. OpenGL apps and games will also run slower due to a software layer. Most people with *average* PC's will not get the full benefit from Vista's abilities and they'll have to upgrade just to get their current games working at the same speed as on XP. Great :/ Of course a year after it's released we'll all be saying it was a good move MS have made... maybe.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see what the real effect on older DX / OpenGL stuff turns out to be. It could turn out to be a whole load of hooey like the activation in XP caused before its release.
