I never read Fahrenheit 451 and it isn't sufficiently popular as a phrase of pop culture to understand what you mean when you use it metaphorically. So no, I have not got a clue what your flaming about.
Whether 1984 works as a metaphor or not is merely a matter of communication, most people understood what I meant by it - as evidenced by the replies - as my point was understood I clearly suceeded in communicating, except to you, for which I hang my head in shame.
