With regards Simply's turnover, I was not high enough to be partial to the full figures however I can say that it was highly seasonal and working there at xmas required the speed of a gazelle on anabolic steroids and the stamina of a billegerant mountain.
It did amuse me even then that the hundreds of people working there on the phones produced a turnover that was only "comparable" to two guys in the middle of a sprawl of desks who ran the web site amongst their other duties.
Anyway the point is that the speed of a web site has a direct and tangeable value, every tenth of a second delay adds a little bit more to the impatience and frustration of potential customers.
