you implied I should buy Max just because I hope it delivers on it's promise and want to buy it if my hope turns out right
Rubbish! I never said anything like that, implied or otherwise. I have consistently and repeatedly on occasions too numerous to mention said just the opposite.

So who is really the short-sighted one?
People whineing for the 3D module over the GUI module. I thought I had made that quite clear previously

It took 27 hours for me to finish my first game in Blitz after buying it, it took TGC 5 years to get a language they released to a reasonably stable condition.
Yes, well I would have thought it goes without saying that TGC aren't programming in Blitz.

As far as I am concerned Blitz3D is still the best 3D development platform for the lone home programmer,
I agree completely. So why this obsessiveness over the BlitzMAX 3D module?

Now I'm not mocking anyone who buys BlitzMax, it's multiplatform and it's got 2D which is all some people want
And soon GUI, which is also what some people want. I would reckon that the GUI module required quite a bit less programming than the 3D engine would. Thus it makes perfect sense to finish the quicker task first. More importantly however, since the GUI is the lesser project, any changes required by the 3D module will be quicker to implement, than if it had been the other way around.

I can't see how anyone could rationally disagree with this.
