Does it help, that depends. I have seen a number of jobs listing one of them as a requirement, so to get past the personnel drones who search through resumes it would be a good idea.
That said, I've never bothered to get one myself - but I've been in the business a long time now, back when I started getting a job without even a degree was pretty normal.
