While I think spybot is better overall than Ad-Aware, neither spybot of ad-aware is superior to the other one -- I've had plenty of situations where Spybot claimed a system was clean while Ad-Aware managed to find a bunch of extra things, and the other way around as well.
for the best protection, you should run BOTH, and also periodically run cwshredder -- coolwebsearch is a particularly nasty virus-like spyware program with many different versions, and none of the anti-spyware programs can completely clear out all versions... Both spybot and ad-aware will leave traces behind of some of the incarnations. Cwshredder will remove all known variations of cool web search, but won't deal with any other spyware.
