I was like Becky and didn't have an anti virus pr9ogram util around 2002, and then I got a stink virus that had to be manually removed (once I'd read up on the topic). Then I used norton for a few years, but hated the loading time and memory hog. Used to disable it before playing any games as it really slows down disk accessing!
Seems like AVG is popular. Maybe I'll disable my avast bootup and still see if my PC is slow to load into XP, because it could be something else. To be honest though, I only have 3 sys tray icons: Avast, volume and safely remove hardware (due to a USB printer). I like to keep my startup minimal for speed anyway unlike some people's 20 or so incons my god!
