Anyone had any luck with delta-timing on ODE simulations? I've been using a fixed quickStep of 0.15 and locking the program's main loop to screen refresh. Of course on a slower machine this has a slower frame-rate and the simulation runs in slow motion.
I just tried an implmentation where the QuickStep amount is varied based on time since last update, and the movement is both jerky and not as accurate, with a collision penetrations. A simple test of setting QuickStep to 0.13+rnd(0.4) shows collision responses aren't smooth without a constant Quickstep amount.
Best I can figure is to set a constant value based on a rough summation of the machine's performance, but i don't know how to best obtain such a metric. Any ideas for keeping simulation rate constant across different spec'd machines?
