I like the look of it alot. I also think that there's no reason to include a direct link option, JP has set out to make a specific kind of game for an area of the market that sets it away from triple A titles like C&C etc. I am sure there was a small wave of play-by-email games a while back, I think there was an X-Com game mentioned.
I think the idea behind John's post was to show off a game that he's proud of and perhaps generate some interest from prospective customers :)
