Opinions on object oriented programming

You think in 20 years time it will matter what langauge you use to make an application on a 100 Tera flop machine
Even today, it doesn't matter. That's why PL/1 programmers can ask (and get!) whatever salary they want.

OpenGL is a simple library of functions and and variables , while direct x is oop
Actually it's the other way around. (Except "Managed DirectX" which is now also OO).

Obviously I do not mean that it is of no use, I am not so competent, for big projects probably it is a must, but for an hobbyest or shareware programmer it is of little use, except at a very basic level.
That's a very 'elitist' (for lack of a better word) thing to say. Many OO methodologies, such as XP (extreme programming) and UP (unified process), include quality assurance and quality control techniques (such as unit testing), making it easier to create programs to a high standard. If that's not your intention, I can see how OO and it's associated methodologies might not be your cup of tea.

Additionally the OO paradigm allows for easier maintenance, making it easier to add new functionality, expand on old functionality or port to newer platforms (as you can keep platform independant code modularized).

I like classes but they are a simple extensions of c structers.
Again it's the other way around. Structs in C are a cheap imitation of classes in SIMULA and SmallTalk, since B and BCPL did not have any advanced datatype support at all.
