I think I'm now in a bit of a "catch 22" situation, I have been watching the JV-ODE threads with great interest and noted that the tri mesh may still have some issues; and so have held off actually buying into it, but I have last night grabbed the demo, and sadly I can't see if it can do what I'd like before buying into it as far as I can tell. (having said that it is early days still.)
As for making the track, yes, that's completely trivial for me. As for depth of slot, then if told the depth to make it, then it wil be that depth. If only I could code well enough and had enough confidence to try that side of it then this could be in the bag.
I got the impression you have been waiting on this wrapper to get on with your own projects, and as such you'll prbably be very busy about now, but if you or anyone else here feels cosy enough with it to have a go, the I'd be happy to make tracks and cars (which is the really easy bit for me!) I may not be able to contrubute to coding yet, but in the meantime I can do those bits I really know about.
BTW, if it were to follow the slots well, then yoiu'd not be limited to "scalextric" types, you could easily make the pro types which can be far more fun to drive. I also suspect that a net play mode would be a total winner too assuming the networking side is up to it (these little cars can move very quickly indeed when given enough room!)
Normally you'd have to go split screen, but net play means you could easily race 8 cars at once I'd imagine, as each polayer has their own screen and own camera setup, thus freeing this genre from it's past limitations.
Sorry, got a bit carried away there, but this represents a bit of a break through for this area of gaming! ;O)
I'm up for designing custom USB controllers too! ;O)
